Monitored Fire Alarms

How monitored fire alarms work

If you’ve got a regular fire alarm system, you might think you’re protected, but what if no one is there to raise the alarm to the emergency services? Without fire alarm monitoring your standard alarm simply rings out while fire spreads undeterred.

Your assets and property in London can be better protected with the installation of a monitored fire alarm (also referred to as Redcare monitoring); when a fire triggers the alarm it connects to our dedicated alarm receiving centre. Using a landline connection or wireless roaming, the signal alerts the emergency services immediately to take action.

When your alarm is triggered

Your alarm is triggered by a fire. A signal is sent to the receiving centre via:

  • Either your landline
  • Or a secure wireless 4G network

The emergency services are alerted

  • Fires can be tackled quickly

Without this monitoring system, you’re reliant on someone hearing your bells-only system out-of-hours and calling the emergency services, which could be too late to prevent widespread damage.

Monitored Fire Alarms FAQs

What happens if I don't maintain my monitored fire alarm system?

The worst thing that could happen if you don’t maintain your monitored fire alarm system is that it could stop working. That in turn could mean that a fire at your premises would not be detected by your Alarm Receiving Centre, with far more significant damage likely to result.

If you have installed a monitored fire alarm system as a result of your fire risk assessment, you will also be required to maintain it under the terms of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which states that fire safety “facilities, equipment and devices provided in respect of the premises under this Order…are subject to a suitable system of maintenance and are maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair”.

How often should I schedule maintenance for my monitored fire alarm system?

All fire alarm systems should be inspected and serviced every six months to ensure that they are still working effectively. Here at Scutum South East, we offer comprehensive maintenance services either on a regular scheduled basis, or we can carry out a one-off service if required.

Where does Scutum South East offer monitored fire alarm system maintenance?
