The Benefits of Keyfob Door Entry Systems

The Benefits of Keyfob Door Entry Systems

Access control and door entry systems come in many forms. One of the most popular and most cost-effective solutions is the keyfob.

Part of what makes it so popular is how straightforward it is to operate for the user. All you have to do is hold it close to the reader located at the door you’re trying to pass through and, as long as your fob has the right authorisation, the lock is triggered.

The technology involved in keyfob door entry systems – Radio Frequency Identification, or RFID for short – is simple but safe and effective. In fact, it’s so safe that the same technology is used to enable our contactless payment cards to work.

But keyfobs aren’t just good news for the user, because there’s a whole lot of ‘behind the scenes’ stuff going on that makes them a good choice for whoever is running the system as well.

In this article, we’re going to explore some of the key benefits a keyfob can bring to the security system at your commercial premises.

The locks can’t be picked

With standard locks, experts – and they are out there, although not all of them are criminal – can find their way in if they know what they’re doing and they think that the rewards of doing so will be worthwhile. That’s not the case with these kinds of locks, which are to all intents and purposes effectively tamper proof. Not only that, but if someone does try to tamper with your locking system, an alert can be raised to draw attention to the fact.

Personalised access levels

With a standard key, it will either fit into and be able to turn a lock or it won’t. It’s a little more complicated than that with a keyfob. While two different users might have what seem to be exactly the same tool, they can be programmed to open doors of your choosing. Or not be programmed to open doors of your choosing, depending on how you want to look at it. That could be because the people they’ve been issued to do different jobs, have different levels of authority, or because there are particularly valuable items in a certain area that you want to restrict access to as far as possible. The point is, you’re in far more control of who can go where.

Allows monitoring of staff movement

Not only can you decide who can go where, but you can also configure your system so that you know when they do it. That can make for a straightforward time management solution if the door in question is the one your staff need to get into and out of their workplace, so you’ll know if they arrive late or try to leave early. It’s also useful for those restricted areas with valuable contents that we mentioned earlier, because if anything does go missing, you’ll know who was in there and when.

No problem when a fob is lost

When a normal key gets lost or stolen – or someone forgets to hand theirs in when they move on to another job elsewhere – you might want to get the locks changed so that your security isn’t compromised. With a keyfob, however, all you have to do is remove access privileges for that particular keyfob on your system, meaning that it will no longer be of any use should anyone try to use it.

Suitable for businesses of all types

Keyfobs can be used on all kinds of premises, no matter their size or the complexity of their layout. The system can be used to manage multiple access points across multiple buildings on the same site – or it can just be used to control access at a single door at the front of one office. That makes it one of the most flexible of all security solutions and it can be adapted for any budget.

Easy to administrate

If all that sounds like it might be a touch complicated to manage, you’ll be surprised at how easy it actually is. Changes in staffing or permissions can be done quickly from your laptop or even your mobile – you don’t even need to be on site to make the necessary changes.
