Sherlock Holmes Museum

Sherlock Holmes Museum

Whether you’re a fan of crime novels or you’ve watched one of the many adaptations of his stories on television or in the cinema, you’ll probably know that Sherlock Holmes lived at 221B Baker Street in London.

In 1980, the flat with that address was acquired and converted to create a museum dedicated to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s celebrated sleuth, perhaps the world’s most famous fictional detective. The museum has been designed to accurately reflect the Victorian world in which Holmes would have lived, with items scattered around that reference his many cases and a large gift shop for the thousands of visitors from around the world to take home their own mementos of their visit.

Scutum South East was proud to be asked to review the museum’s existing security system to assess where it could be improved or upgraded and how it could be futureproofed to ensure its ongoing effectiveness.

It was agreed that we should take full ownership of the building’s security, to include ongoing maintenance of the CCTV cameras employed throughout, together with the systems used to record and store footage.

We installed new cameras with higher definition images that the museum’s management could review remotely via their smartphones. We also upgraded existing systems to allow for future expansion and extra cameras at a later date.

Our work was timed to coincide with a general renovation, so it was important that we were able to complete all the work according to agreed deadlines to minimise any disruption to the museum’s plans.

Once the upgrade had been completed, we took the time to make sure that the museum was happy with the new system and the service we had provided. They were delighted with the results and we are proud to now be able to continue our relationship with them going forward.
