What Are Wet Chemical Extinguishers Used for?

Wet chemical extinguishers are the only type of extinguisher that can be safely used on Class F fires involving cooking oils, grease and fats. That means that they are commonly found in commercial kitchens, restaurants, cafes, hotels and other places where hot food is being prepared.

They work by covering the fire with a chemical that both cools the fire and removes access to the oxygen that would otherwise feed the fire. Just as importantly, they do this without causing the hot oil or fat to splash and potentially spread the fire or injure anyone standing nearby.
