Powder Extinguishers FAQs

In which areas does Scutum South East provide powder extinguishers?

Our powder extinguishers are available for delivery, installation and maintenance services in London, Surrey and much of the rest of the South East of England.

What are powder extinguishers used for?

Dry powder extinguishers can be used on: Class A fires involving combustible materials like paper, wood and fabrics; Class B fires involving flammable liquids such as petrol and paint; Class C fires involving flammable gases such as butane and methane; and electrical fires (up to 1000 volts only).

Does Scutum South East offer free consultations for powder extinguishers?

If you’re not sure if a dry powder extinguisher is the right solution for your particular fire risk, we offer free consultations and advice over the phone or on a site visit so that we can cast an expert eye over your premises.

Do powder extinguishers need to be serviced/maintained?

It’s both good practice and a legal requirement to have all fire extinguishers in commercial premises serviced at least once a year with an extended service every five years – it’s the only way to make sure they are still working effectively and able to tackle a fire should the worst happen.

How quickly can Scutum South East deliver dry powder fire extinguishers?

We always keep our local warehouse well stocked with all kinds of fire extinguishers, so we can usually deliver and install within 2-5 days of your order.

Are powder fire extinguishers available to hire?

Even if it’s just for a few days for a one-off event or project, you still need to make sure you have the right type of fire extinguisher on site. That’s why we offer all our extinguishers for hire for as much or as little time as you need them.

Is Scutum South East accredited for fire alarm installation?

We’re fully accredited for installation of all the fire extinguishers we provide, including dry powder extinguishers.

Do you also offer fire extinguisher disposal?

Yes. All extinguishers can deteriorate over time, have a limited lifespan and count as hazardous waste. When they are no longer usable, they need to be disposed of according to strict legislation, and we can help.

What colour are powder fire extinguishers?

Powder fire extinguishers can be identified easily thanks to the bright blue label across the body of the extinguisher. The label should also be printed with the word ‘Powder’ in clear white lettering.

What is the difference between powder and dry powder extinguishers?

There is no difference between powder and dry powder extinguishers. In fact, not only are these the most versatile of all extinguishers, they also have the most different names, because they are also commonly referred to as dry chemical or ABC fire extinguishers.
